Bus Pass Fees
Bus Pass Fees
Some transportation services may require a bus pass fee.
Fees may apply when transportation is requested for an out-of-boundary school, program of choice, school of choice, out-of-division student, or a secondary/additional transportation address.
Important: A bus pass will not be issued until applicable fees are paid.
Fees will be reflected on the student’s PowerSchool Parent Portal account.
Current Bus Pass Fees
User-Pay Bus Pass
$320.00 per child
Fees are charged from the month the bus pass is printed to the end of the current school year.
Replacement Bus Pass
$10.00 per card
A replacement fee applies when a bus pass card is lost, damaged, or needs to be replaced.
Replacement bus passes are requested and paid for through the PowerSchool Parent Portal using Rycor School Fees.
Once the replacement request and payment are received, a new bus pass will be printed and sent to the student’s school.
Bus pass fees and replacement bus pass fees are paid through the PowerSchool Parent Portal using School Fees / Rycor.

School of Choice, Out-of-Boundary or Out-of-Division Transportation
A fee applies when a student attends a school outside their designated school boundary or outside the Division boundary.
- School of choice outside the student’s designated school boundary
- Out of designated school boundary
- Out of transportation boundary
- Out of Division boundary
Programs of Choice
Program-of-choice fees may apply when a student attends a program outside their designated boundary.
Programs of choice may include Montessori, Fine Arts, STEM, Celtic Academy, Sports Academy, and other approved programs.
Secondary or Additional Transportation Address
A fee applies to additional pickup or drop-off locations other than the student’s primary home address.
This may include a second parent/guardian address, grandparent’s residence, day home, childcare location, or another approved address.
Why is there a fee for an additional address?
Alberta Education transportation funding is based on transportation to and from the student’s primary home address.
Requests for transportation beyond the primary home address are not guaranteed and are subject to route availability, stop availability, available seats, and applicable fees.
User-Pay Bus Pass Conditions
Existing Route and Stop Required
User-pay transportation is only available if there is an existing route and existing bus stop in place.
Space Must Be Available
User-pay transportation is only available if there is space on the bus. A pass may be deactivated during the year if the seat is needed by an eligible in-boundary student.
Stop Distance May Be Longer
Students using user-pay transportation may have to access a bus stop beyond the typical 750 metre walking threshold.
Valid for One School Year
Purchased bus passes are valid for one school year only. The same bus service may not be available the following school year.
Examples
School of Choice Example
A student lives in the St. Catherine Catholic School boundary but the family chooses to attend Holy Cross Catholic School.
This is considered school-of-choice transportation. Transportation is not guaranteed, and a user-pay fee may apply only if there is an existing route, existing stop, and available space on the bus.
Program of Choice Example
A student lives in the St. Kateri Catholic School boundary but attends Montessori at Mother Teresa Catholic School.
This is considered program-of-choice transportation. Transportation is not guaranteed, and a user-pay fee may apply only if there is an existing route, existing stop, and available space on the bus.
Celtic Academy Example
A student lives in the St. Catherine Catholic School boundary but attends Celtic Academy at Holy Cross Catholic School.
If the student lives outside the approved transportation boundary for that program, transportation is not guaranteed. A user-pay fee may apply only if there is an existing route, existing stop, and available space on the bus.
Additional Address Example
A student requires pickup or drop-off at a second address, such as another parent’s home, grandparent’s home, day home, or childcare location.
A secondary or additional address may be subject to user-pay fees and is only approved if there is an existing route, existing stop, and available space on the bus.
Reminder: Purchase of a bus pass does not guarantee service if route availability, bus stop availability, or seat availability changes.
