Programs of Choice

Music (K-12) & Band (5-12)

Students, taught by our music specialists, are recognized locally, provincially and nationally for their quality and diversity of repertoire. It begins with Kindergarten where children are exposed to musical opportunities. When musical specialists provide students with quality musical opportunities it positively impacts overall student learning in school. As a result of this research and the Board's belief in providing a range of opportunities for our students, we have a supported model of music delivery from Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 12 and District Band delivery from Grades 5-12. Band at the secondary level includes Concert Band, Jazz, and Wind Ensemble.

Grande Prairie & District Catholic Schools embraces the importance of music education as a part of an innovative academic experience for all students. The repertoire students experience is diverse, ranging from traditional selections, to jazz and the most current trends in music performance at all grade levels.  Throughout each school year, students prepare themselves to share in their achievements on stage both within and outside of their school communities.

Dual Credit Opportunities:

Website

If you are a student in Grade 11 or 12, you can earn both high school credits and post secondary credits that count towards a post-secondary certificate, diploma, or degree, including a journeyman certificate.

As a Dual Credit Student, you will:

  • Start your post-secondary education journey while still in high school.
  • Complete high school while engaging in practical opportunities.
  • Transition to post-secondary studies or move into the world of work.

Potentially complete post-secondary with less financial debt.

More information can be found at the Alberta Education Dual Credit Website , https://education.alberta.ca/dual-credit/alberta-dual-credit/

Who should pursue a Dual Credit Opportunity?

Many of the Dual Credit courses have an online component to them. Students will be responsible for attending on-site or online (virtual) courses and meet post-secondary timelines and requirement. As a dual credit student you will also need to manage expectation and timelines alongside your regular high school programming.

Dual Credit may affect your first year post-secondary awards, bursaries, scholarships, athletic standing, and experiencing limited transferability of some post-secondary programs. Always speak with your high school guidance counselor, our Dual Credit Teacher, or the post-secondary institution, as you make decisions about your high school and post-secondary programming. Generally students who pursue Dual Credit have a high degree of independence and are highly motivated.
