We are very pleased to share that, following a thorough and coordinated investigation by the Grande Prairie Police Service, the threatening email resulting in a hold and secure at St. John Paul II Catholic School has been determined not to be credible. Police have also confirmed that the IP address associated with the threatening email originates outside of Canada and they have enough additional information that, most importantly, our students and staff are safe, and the hold and secure has been lifted.
We are extremely grateful to the Grande Prairie Police Service for its prompt, diligent, and professional response. Their careful investigative work, effective execution of safety protocols, and cooperation from our Division's IT team were instrumental in bringing this situation to a safe and reassuring conclusion.
We also sincerely thank our dedicated St. John Paul II staff and administration for their calm, caring, and professional response. Their commitment ensured that students remained safe, supervised, and supported throughout today's events.
With the hold and secure now lifted, regular school activities are resuming, including regular dismissal and transportation routines at the end of the day. Police officers may remain on site and will stay in close communication with the school and division as an additional measure of reassurance for our school community. As the investigation remains ongoing, no further details can be shared at this time.
We recognize that students may have questions or benefit from some additional reassurance following today's events. Our school staff and student support services are available to assist, and families are encouraged to contact the school should their child require additional support.
Finally, we extend our heartfelt thanks to our parents and guardians for your patience, cooperation, and trust throughout the day. We understand how important your children's safety is to you, and we are grateful for the confidence you place in us each day.
Above all, we are thankful that our students and staff are safe and that our school community can confidently return to its regular routines. Their safety and well-being will always remain our highest priority.
