Sprinkler Malfunction @ St. Kateri

Updated: 6:05pm

St Kateri will be open tomorrow for regular scheduled classes. Four rooms may need to be relocated tonight for approximately a week or so.

Thanks to quick work by maintenance staff, Fire Hall #1, custodians, staff, and controls companies we were able to shut down the sprinkler system and contain the water damage to floors and walls in the first four modular classrooms the modular learning commons and connected washrooms.

The sprinkler system froze, then a pipe burst flooding a large area. A lot of water turned into cold steam as the doors were opened to push out the water. It looked like smoke throughout the school but there wasn’t smoke anywhere.

Restoration companies are on scene helping HVAC, sprinkler companies, various trades and our own maintenance crew.

This afternoon the sprinkler system in the modular link at St.Kateri Catholic School failed causing significant water damage in that part of the school.

Parents with kids in Grades 1-4 are asked to pick up their kids at school, as their shoes may be wet and it is unsafe to walk home if they are wet.

School will remain in session until the end of the day.
Restoration crews are on site and school will be open and classes will resume tomorrow.

The following rooms have been affected.

2A Lundrigan
2C Hooper
3B Winterford/Bailey
4B Jebb
1B Howatson
1C Stewart
2B Sawchuk
3A Noskey
