Teachers-EAL (2019-2023)

 
  • Reporting 3 times a year. Elementary schools (Nov.15, March, May)  High school sept 30, March, May.    Teachers are to highlight things worked on for each reporting period and submit the 27 page document to CST for review.  Include anecdotal teacher notes where appropriate which outlines the plan/goals for the student. FI students in grade 3 will be tiered with tchr/CST  to determine which students should be coded prior to Nov.15 with IPT /Written assessments  and those to be reviewed  by Feb.15th
Fall
  • Benchmarks assessments to be completed and/or modified for current year of instruction. Teachers will need to collect this data to better program for the ELL students. 

    • writing samples along with rubric and teacher notes

    • F & P or IPT  (done within 1 month of child arriving into our schools)
    • IPT is for Ss grade 9-12 at high school as well as FI Ss gr3-9 
  • All Kindergarten, Grade 1, 4,7,10 will need to complete a new ELL benchmark.  Some of the previous data will be able to carry forward on new divisional ELL benchmark. 

  • Best practice strategy is upload these assessments right away to Dossier and PASI
  • If teachers choosing to write summary for PASI, please share in Fall
May 15th, 202_   
  • teachers to complete electronic ELL 4 benchmarks  within Dossier (ECS is only 2)

Teachers are to upload all documents to Dossier & (Secretaries to upload to PASI if audited )
-best practice is to upload writing and F&P/IPT at start of year as this helps program for the student, then only 27 page template at end of year.
    • 27 page ELL benchmark

    • Writing samples, rubric and teacher feedback

      • upload IPT for high school gr9-12, Prek & ELL Students at St.Gerard/LR (Gr3-9)
  •  Transition meeting between staff of:   gr3 and gr4 or gr6 to gr7, gr9 to gr10 to move current data from one Divisional benchmark to the new one. 

  • "How to" input to Dossier and save to PASI (see below)
Kindergarten Teachers
  • Grades 1-8 schools are to collect data and then highlight/anecdotal notes on the  27 page Ab.Ed planning document  within 1 month of arrival to the school.  See student records as the benchmark and assessments may have already been completed in June of previous year.  If not, all teachers of ELL students need to do the following; 
  • F & P assessment (English schools)
  • Data collected through guided reading / 1-1 instruction within the classroom
  • Writing sample corrected using the 6 sections of writing (linguistic vocabulary, linguistic grammar, strategic, socio-linguistic, discourse, editing) within the 27 page document.  
 

Teachers keep  the benchmark tracking sheets on the guided reading table, or close proximity to ensure they make reference to it, as well as date it with anecdotal notes of the child progress at each reporting period.(3)

Gr8-12 Teachers (highschool configuration)
 
  • Grades 8-12 schools will collect data and then highlight/anecdotal notes on 27 page Ab.Ed planning document within 1 month of arrival to the school.  See student records as the benchmark and assessments may have already been completed in June of previous year.  If not, all teachers of ELL students need to do the following classroom observations and conversations with the child as well as these 2 pieces of assessment every year.
  • IPT comprehension exam online (see district lead to receive IPT assessment code)
  • Writing sample 
-Teachers would scan their document plan and upload to Dossier, there is no limit to size, so scan normally and upload. As of Sept2023, only need to keep assessments and workplan at school level.  Upon Audit, then upload to PASI.
