Continuing Student Learning in Our Catholic Schools
On Friday March 20, 2020, Alberta Education released the document entitled “Continuing student learning.” The letter describes the continuity of student learning and content delivery for kindergarten to grade 12. Knowing the resilience and commitment to student learning, school divisions will determine how best to meet this requirement.
The Alberta Catholic School Trustees’ Association (ACSTA), together with the Council of Catholic School Superintendents (CCSSA), would like to reassure our stakeholders that our Catholic schools are communities of faith and Catholic teaching. Religious instruction and permeation of all subject areas makes Catholic education distinct, whether face to face, or online. Our unwavering commitment to faith-based education remains steadfast.
The ACSTA commends the work of our administration and teachers who have risen to the challenge in this difficult time. The CCSSA, together with the Religious Education Network have demonstrated strong leadership in preparing and coordinating online religious education plans and materials. Both ACSTA and CCSSA wish to thank all divisions who have already opened up their religious education resources for everyone. The spirit of sharing, cooperation and support is exceptional!
We are currently deep in Lent and moving towards Easter where we rejoice in the resurrection. Catholic education exists because of Easter and we need to provide the Good News of resurrection, new life, and hope to our students. For Catholic schools, we permeate all our subjects with love, hope and mercy offered to us by knowing Jesus and His teachings. Through the explicit teaching of religious education and permeation of faith in all subject areas, our students and their families come to know and understand the call to salvation available to all of us through the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is precisely during difficult times that we turn to our faith and become the light of Christ for one another.
