French Immersion

We are pleased to offer Pre-Kindergarten at Ecole St Gerard where your child can experience a gentle introduction to French in a play-based program.

Eligibility and Registration:

  • Your child must be four years of age by December 31 of the upcoming school year. (A limited number of placements for three year olds may be available).
  • Children who have an identified language delay will be asked to join one of our other Pre-Kindergarten programs to gain age-appropriate language skills in English prior to starting French Immersion. Having a strong language foundation is essential for the development of early literacy skills.
  • Registration for French Immersion Pre-Kindergarten will require a copy of your child’s birth certificate and baptismal certificate (if Catholic), completed registration (online) and payment of a $55 registration fee.

Monthly user fees for French Immersion Pre-Kindergarten: $265.00

Montessori

Montessori Pre-Kindergarten is offered at Mother Teresa Catholic School. Through the Montessori philosophy, students learn in an environment that supports and respects each child’s unique development and at his/her natural rate of progress.  Each child is given the chance to fulfill his/her potential possibilities to become an independent and balanced individual.

Eligibility and Registration:

  • To attend Montessori Pre-Kindergarten your child must be three years of age by December 31 of the school year. 
  • Registration for Pre-Kindergarten will require a copy of your child’s birth certificate and baptismal certificate (if Catholic), completed registration (online) and payment of a $55 registration fee.

Program Schedule:

Monday-Friday AM, Monday-Friday PM, or M/W/F AM. Parents can choose a 5 half-day program or a 3 half-day program.

Program Fees:

5 half-day program is $330 per month and 3 half-day program is $200 per month.

Our community Pre-Kindergarten programs offer a play-based learning enviornment for community students with typical or advanced skills, as well as children who require tailored supports and services.

Community Pre-Kindergarten is located at St. Clement, St. Catherine, St. Kateri, and Holy Cross. Please see below to determine how your child can attend these programs:

Would your child benefit from social interaction in his/her community school prior to starting kindergarten? Is your child demonstrating typical or advanced abilities to speak, interact and think?  Your child may be able to attend our Pre-Kindergarten programs at St. Clement, St. Kateri, St. Catherine and Holy Cross.

  • Children attend 5 half-days per week and the monthly fee is $265 for this program.

PUF

Alberta Education provides funding for children whose learning and development is delayed and who require an early childhood program tailored to meet individual needs.

If your child qualifies for PUF (Program Unit Funding) it is important that you contact us to begin the registration process. Please call the Catholic Education Centre (780) 532-3013  to discuss options for your child’s education with our Supervisor of Early Learning.

Children with Speech-Language Needs

Does your child have difficulty with expressing thoughts? Have difficulty understanding? Have a limited vocabulary? If you have concerns about your child’s speech or language development, it is recommended that you communicate these concerns with Alberta Health Services to receive information that is specific to your child’s needs and abilities. Your child may qualify for government funded early intervention through our Pre-K program. Your child must be three years of age by December 31 of the school year. Please call your nearest AHS Speech-Language Pathology department to schedule an appointment:

Children with Developmental Delays

If you have concerns about your child’s behavior, cognitive development or physical development (including fine motor and gross motor skills) it is recommended that you communicate these concerns with your family doctor and Alberta Health Services to receive information that is specific to your child’s needs and abilities. Your child may qualify for government funded early intervention through our Pre-K program. Your child must be three years of age by December 31 of the school year.

Children who are English Language Learners

Is the primary language spoken in the home something other than English? If your child is an English Language Learner who would benefit from play-based learning opportunities he/she may qualify for a funded Pre-Kindergarten program placement. We have a limited number of these spaces available at St. Clement, St. Kateri, St. Catherine and Holy Cross. 

Eligibility and Registration:

Your child must be four years of age by December 31 of the school year. Rural Schools

We are pleased to welcome preschool aged children into our rural community schools, helping to ensure a strong foundation for learning and easing the transition to school prior to Kindergarten.

St. Mary’s Catholic School, Sexsmith

  • Your child must be three years of age by December 31 of the school year.
  • Registration for Pre-Kindergarten will require a copy of your child’s birth certificate and baptismal certificate (if Catholic), completed registration (online)  and payment of a $55 registration fee.
